1. What is something not too many people know about you?
One thing that surprises most people is that I have not been shooting for very long. As of this very moment, while typing this interview, I have been shooting for exactly 11 months. Two years ago I lost my dad to cancer. His three biggest hobbies were cycling, woodworking, and photography. I'm not a fan of bicycles or table saws, so I decided to tinker with my dads old Leica point and shoot. I fell in love with the creative process of taking and editing pictures, so I bought my own dedicated camera. I started with landscapes and shooting my friends, then eventually made a Model Mayhem account to branch out and meet new people. Now I regularly work with new faces that I meet through Instagram.
2. What are your biggest passions?
My biggest passions, besides photography, include playing and listening to jazz, riding my motorcycles, and health and fitness.
3. What are your goals for the future?
I would like to eventually make careers out of my passions. I want to earn a living helping people improve their lifestyles through exercise and healthy eating, while shooting weddings and events on the side.
4. What is your definition of success?
Success to me is happiness and contentment. Sometimes you'll meet an older person that says "I've never worked a day in my life!" And what they mean is that they enjoyed their careers so much that they didn't see them as jobs. I want that. I want to be happy and excited to get up and go out into the world every day to accomplish new goals. I'm currently in the process of making this happen by expanding my knowledge of photography and going to school for nutrition.
5. Tell us something about the projects you're working on.
I recently had an idea for a project that would promote body positivity and confidence. I want to use the principles of kintsugi (Google it, it's pretty cool), but on people and their physical "imperfections" like scars and stretch marks. And I'm also looking into doing underwater photography. I'm equally excited and nervous for that adventure.
