1. What is something not too many people know about you?
I am a survivor of rape and sexual assault. I pride myself in being a person who is always composed, organized, and in control - so this was something very hard to admit, even to myself. Recently I went public with my story, and the responses from other silent victims (both women and men) were overwhelming. It made me realize the importance of not feeling shame or blaming yourself, and gave me courage to speak up so people like me don't feel alone. I am still fighting a court case for sexual assault, which I wrote about here: https://goo.gl/2rPibh
2. What are your biggest passions?
I love cooking, fashion, cinematography, writing, and graphic design. I find joy in aesthetics and curation. I've found expressing myself creatively to be extremely healing. Cooking and sharing meals with friends or family or just yourself is also relaxing. It's all about taking the bad and channeling it into something positive. A lot of people say "I don't know how to draw" or "I can't write" or "I'm not good at cooking"...but when you're sitting in front of a blank slate, you'd be surprised what spills out. It's very cathartic.
3. What are your goals for the future?
While I do love producing (freelance), I am looking to tackle more environmental and social issues, because these are things that really hit home for me. I want to be an advocate for survivors, and am working on a business model for a program to help. It's a cooking program. I've also started to commission my art pieces, which is really wonderful! I've been speaking with the National Audubon Society in regards to the preservation of Cashes Ledge - a huge ecosystem of underwater life - which is under threat. I'm figuring out ways to help fund their efforts to preserve and hopefully get enough signatures to deem it an Underwater National Monument. https://goo.gl/Qw2zfw
4. What is your definition of success?
Success is just happiness. It's facing your fears. It's being kind to a stranger. It's being selfless, but not a martyr.
5. Tell us something about the projects you're working on.
I am working on a new series of illustrations and am commissioning a few pieces. I'm also still producing.
