1. What is something not too many people know about you?
I grew up with 6 siblings so Ive always been surrounded by people. My family get togethers are always really loud and chaotic. Ive always been really close with all my siblings, each one in their own way. It's really shaped me as a person, Im always on the go and try to fit in as many friends as I can in a day. Sometimes I make so many plans that I can't even do all of them. A lot of people value their alone time, but if someone was with me all the time I wouldn't mind at all. I'm used to it. I actually prefer it.
2. What are your biggest passions or hobbies?
In the last year I've really started to love film photography. My boyfriend got me a point and shoot film camera (Olympus infinity Stylus) for Christmas 2016 and I fell in love with it. Since then I've gotten 5 more film cameras. The colors always turn out so beautiful and that's what I love about it. It has an authentic look that digital could only produce by lots of editing. When I go to pick up my film thats been developed I feel like a little kid when I get the envelope in my hands, because before that I have no idea how the photos are going to look. I can imagine... this will be a dope shot but when you finally see it, its like nothing else.
Besides film, I absolutely love being outside, Im pretty into being eco friendly. I think its really important. I have 38 plants in my house. Taking care of them and watching them grow is a special feeling. They're like my little babies. I have a compost pile, I bring my own Tupperware for left overs, I use reusable bags, water bottles. I've done a lot recently to make the switch to being more eco friendly. I have even convinced my workplace to switch to biodegradable straws. I also have weekly "Clean-ups" with friends. I feel happiest when outdoors with the wind in my hair so it's become really important to try and make a positive impact on my environment and by doing so it's opened up a lot of conversations with friends, family and strangers and I love seeing them make changes too, even if little.
3. What are your goals for the future?
I hope to eventually learn how to develop my own film photos. I want to meet with more people, and collab on projects. I also hope to in the future make a few photo books to share with people. I have tons of photos that I just have saved, I want to share them all but in some more creative ways. Ive recently been entered in a film contest, I just hope to keep sharing my art. I also want to learn more about lighting, and get a bit more techy with my cameras, I want to learn the ins and outs. At the moment my future goals are just to LEARN from research and from my peers! I just want to soak it all in and have fun doing it.
4. What is your definition of success?
I honestly just want to be happy. I learned long ago that I will never be a 9-5 kind of gal. I don't want a desk job. Lots of money and a white picket fence (american dream) don't matter to me. To me, being successful would be creating, and sharing my work with others. As long as I can eat, have shelter and travel here and there, I'd feel pretty damn good.
5. Tell us something about the projects you're working on.
Right now I am meeting with 2 or more people once a week to every 2 weeks. People I don't know. Im currently trying to build a portfolio, and learn from each shoot and person. So far I've mostly been shooting women, which is something I really love. Having women feel confident and comfortable in their bodies is important to me. I've been shooting women of all different shapes and sizes, some comfortable in front of the camera and some who aren't. It's helped me a lot to give direction while shooting, and in some ways I'm more confidence in myself.
I've also been working with some musicians in the Milwaukee area, which is really fun because they already have such creative minds. This upcoming week I will have a shoot with Mic Kellogg in hopes to update his website, with the nice weather we will be venturing outside, giving it a woodsy feel (stay tuned ;) )
