1. What is something not too many people know about you?
Okay, this story tends to be the one that I save for parties, but this seems like a special enough occasion to share with y'all. Something not a lot of people know about me is that I was born in a Piggly Wiggly parking lot in Columbus, Georgia (it was in an ambulance, but I like to see people's reactions when I leave that bit out). My mom also had three ultrasounds and all three times they told her I was a boy (y'know, because it was 1997 and ultrasounds were just kind of like, "I mean, I think it's a boy, but who knows. It's literally 1997 and we're just trying our best here"). My name was supposed to be Levi, and I'm gonna save that for when I have a son of my own.
2. What are your biggest passions?
First and probably most obviously, creating content with incredible people. I'm so thankful to go to school so close to New York City where I can just hop on a train and meet some of the coolest people in the world. I also love to travel, especially with my mom. We went to Ireland two years ago and it's still one of my most precious memories. I'm studying abroad there for a semester next spring and I wake up excited about it every single day.
3. What are your goals for the future?
One of my biggest goals in the future, no matter where I am or what I'm doing, is to be present. I get so caught up in trying to get the perfect shot that sometimes I fall short of soaking in experiences. I also want to be able to loosen my grip on how I view myself as a photographer and branch out to more creative lengths; to surround myself with people who push and challenge me to be in constant pursuit of improvement. I never want to settle with my capabilities.
4. What is your definition of success?
Gosh. A person can be successful in so many ways. I think success has a lot to do with being able to put into the world what you want to receive from it, despite your circumstances. Exuding love and light in such a cold world is one of the bravest, most successful things anybody can do.
5. Tell us something about the projects you’re working on.
Oh, I love this question! A huge project of mine right now is called Hudson Valley Portraits (@hudsonports). It started as a feature page of people all over upstate New York, but over time, it became a hub for creatives in Albany. I wanted to be able to attend meetups that weren't in NYC, and I thought, why shouldn't I be the one who puts them on? So over the past few months, I've hosted meetups in Albany and Troy with some wonderful friends, Fatima Hussain and Connor Nichols. I wouldn't have been able to do it without them. We've created such a wonderful little community up there. Our May meetup was actually endorsed by HCollective!
