1. What is something not too many people know about you?
Something that many people don’t know about me is that I’m equally as introverted as I am extroverted if not more. I was a social butterfly as a child but after experiencing bullying in middle school, I began to isolate myself from the people around me. This forced me to find happiness within myself and ultimately made me stronger and more resilient. Spending time alone allows me to learn to be comfortable with myself and I’ve found that it is an important part of a person’s journey to building self-love and confidence. Once I learned to enjoy my own company, the relationships I chose to invest in were more fruitful and healthy. As a full time student and aspiring singer, songwriter, and model, I’m often exhausted at the end of the day and prefer to spend my downtime alone. That being said, when I’m in the mood for company I’m an excellent host and love to entertain. I enjoy making people feel comfortable, valued, and appreciated, which is why at first acquaintance many assume that I am as extroverted as they come.
2. What are your biggest passions or hobbies?
At the moment I would say that my biggest passion is performing. Self-expression is so important in life and being that I sing, song-write, dance, and choreograph, performances allow me to do just that. I often write songs for myself with no audience in mind, whether I’m telling myself what I need to hear in a certain situation, or reflecting on an experience that helped me grow. Seeing an audience connect to my story or be moved by my words is one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever experienced.
3. What are your goals for the future?
There was a time where I had many goals and plans for my future because I was in a troubled mental space and I thought that once I accomplished those things I would be happy. I’ve now realized that although it is good to have goals in life, none of those things were the secret to my happiness and I would have been on an endless quest for fulfillment. In the last two years I’ve had some of the best experiences of my life and I never saw any of them coming. It’s made me think that being content with life is not so much about meticulously planning out your journey, but continuously taking steps in the right direction and being prepared for whatever may come. Currently I am months away from graduating with a bachelor’s degree in music production and then I’m off to LA to pursue music.
4. What is your definition of success?
Success to me is being content with yourself and what you have. Growing up I served on mission trips and traveled frequently with my family. I quickly learned that money and status have nothing to do with success in life. Some of the poorest communities I’ve served in are home to some of the happiest people I’ve ever met. We are often encouraged to set incredibly high standards of success for ourselves so that we learn perseverance and diligence, and while this is important to our development I personally feel that not enough people remind us to be happy with the now. I’m not saying that we should settle for the situations we find ourselves in, but often we are so focused on where we want to be that we are incapable of being happy where we are. We are never promised tomorrow so while it is important to plan for the future, don’t forget to enjoy today.
5. Tell us something about the projects you're working on.
I’m currently working on releasing my first official single as REGALJASON, the alias I perform under. I chose this alias not only to differentiate myself from the long list of artists with the name “Jason”, but also because I wanted to inspire myself to be truly deserving of the title “Regal”. I have original music, videos, covers, and more in store and if you’d like to keep up with my journey or see what I’ve already been doing you can find links to all my social media and projects on my website, regaljason.com.
