1. What is something not too many people know about you?
That I have a twin brother who's very different from me. I work in media, he works in scientific research. Also, that I used to be a cheerleader, but have a mild fear of heights.
2. What are your biggest passions or hobbies?
I write and edit for a living at The Smart Local and that's where my passion lies. I can't function for more than a month working for the money alone, so it's inevitable that I'd wind up in the creative industry.
I find satisfaction in hewing away the clutter of writing to get to each person's truth. And in my own writing, I cherish the fact that it gives form to what is unspoken or hard to say, and has the power to evoke emotion even in a total stranger.
Dancing and singing are my other passions. I’m a bit of a chameleon though - hip hop, street jazz, acapella, Disney tunes - I do them all but can't quite focus on one enough to truly call myself a master at it.
3. What are your goals for the future?
I'm quite practical by nature - so all my goals have to be S.M.A.R.T. Specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time-oriented. Else, its not a goal, it's just a dream.
I have a poster in my room for short term goals like dancing regularly, but in the longer term I'd like to helm my own publication, as the editor of a travel magazine. And even further down the road, publish a book.
4. What is your definition of success?
I don't think success is a goal to be achieved. You'll never feel as if you made it, it's always striving for the next high, the next BIG THING. So, to me, I think success is a frame of mind and a lot more humble. If you're happy with where you are and your relationships 80% of the time and are still energized each day, that's success to me.
5. Tell us something about the projects you're working on.
I consider personal growth as a project. At work, learning how to navigate the tensions between commercial and creative aims (aka managing clients). Mentoring aspiring writers, experimenting with new writing styles - all that. Outside of the written word, I'm also trying my hand at graphic design and story-boarding/filming for a few community projects.
