So you’ve decided you want to model. You’ve figured this would be a fun way to branch out and get away from that notorious comfort zone. You lock down all your poses and find the perfect location for your first shoot. You’re ready to get to work, but you’re missing one critical component.
We got together with professional model Enyou Wang for advice on how to get started as a male model. His pictures are known for having a professional quality about them and embodying an eloquent story that you don’t get to see from most accounts.
He says first and foremost find a photographer and pay them for headshots so you can start your lookbook. Attend open calls. Get comfortable in front of a camera and try to learn something new from each shoot. When you’re ready, sign with an agency for proper representation.
If done right, you’ve got a rewarding career of traveling and meeting creatives ahead of you. It’ll be hard at first, but when you’re in sync with your photographer and get that perfect shot, that’ll be the best feeling you can imagine.
